Gem I Am

Gem Creates is a Toronto-based creative practice born from a deep-rooted appreciation for athletics, photography, and the power of visual design.

My journey behind the lens began in 2016 during my high school years, where I balanced classes and part-time shifts with a growing need for a creative outlet. What started as a small passion slowly evolved into a deeper purpose. It was in those high-stakes, fast-paced athletic environments that I discovered my true niche: freezing time in a frame.

After a brief hiatus following graduation, I returned to the craft with a clearer sense of who I was and where I wanted to grow. I returned with a focus on sports, starting with smaller, invited events and eventually finding myself immersed in competitive basketball environments across the GTA.

Today, I work closely with the RiseUp Basketball League, capturing the weekly intensity and dedication of athletes on the court. My professional growth has also been shaped by meaningful past experiences, such as documenting province-wide high school competition for JUEL of Ontario Basketball. These roles, alongside collaborative work with Humber Polytechnic and the Brampton Honey Badgers, have allowed me to bridge the gap between technical skill and creative storytelling.

As my photography matured, my focus naturally expanded into the world of graphic design, particularly within print production. By exploring the nuances of layout, typography, and composition, I’ve developed a more holistic understanding of visual identity. Design has become the essential partner to my photography, allowing me to build comprehensive brand experiences. Through Gem Creates, I continue to explore this intersection with intention, creating visuals that honour the quiet dedication athletes bring to their craft long before the first whistle blows.

“Moments pass quickly, but the memories we capture stay with us long after. Sometimes a single photo becomes the only place a feeling still lives.”

MISSION

My work is fueled by the belief that every athlete has a story worth freezing in time. To capture authentic, unforgettable sports moments that celebrate movement, emotion, and identity. I want every athlete to walk away with photos they feel proud of, images that honour their dedication, highlight their performance, and preserve the competitive spirit of every game played.
